Coming Clean

An interactive theatre experience addressing the current opioid epidemic.

Since 2017, Allentown Public Theatre has performed this unique program for middle schoolers, high schoolers, community organizations and adults.  The goal: to spread awareness and encourage critical thinking about our current opioid crisis.

This June, Allentown Public Theatre will launch its 2018 Voices of Conscience series with a public performance of this program.  Coming Clean utilizes Theatre of the Oppressed techniques to engage audience members as brainstormers and problem-solvers – both on stage and in their own lives.

School Performances

Originally designed for middle and high school students, Coming Clean is the perfect way to reach your students with opioid awareness education.  We don’t preach, and we don’t talk down to students – we instead empower them to learn to think for themselves.

Paired with your health teacher or your school’s guidance counselor, we can support pre-existing programming with fun and engaging activities.  In an assembly setting, we can reach kids in your school who may not be reached otherwise.

“It was a good experience for me; it made me feel more aware of the opioid crisis.  It also made me think about it more deeply.” – anonymous student participant, 2017

A flexible program, Coming Clean can be offered in a variety of formats, either in-school or after-school:

  • 90-minute Assembly program (serves about 300 students)
  • one 90-minute workshop (serves up to 30 students at a time)
  • two 45-minute workshops (serves up to 30 students at a time)
  • one 45-minute workshop (serves up to 30 students at a time)
  • multi-week workshop series (serves up to 30 students a class)

So far, we have performed at the following schools:

  • Lehigh Valley Academy, April 19, 2018
