Season Overview

Allentown Public Theatre’s Festival Of Staged Readings

  • The Atheist (June 13-15) by Irish-born playwright Ronan Noone, directed by Joshua Neth. This one-man show serves as a confession of sorts for a tabloid-journalist who’s short on scruples and big on sensational headlines as a way to power and fame. Some adult content and language.
  • Sensitivity Training (June 21-23) by Jennifer Santos, directed by Dan Sottile, and other new sketch comedies from APT Improv. Easton playwright Santos, the creator of last year’s AIA hit Dinner with Marney, has written a ‘No Exit’ for the 21st century in which three employees for a big adhesives company are subjected to the titular training, and heat starts rising. Sensitivity Training is followed by two new sketches, Cat Whisperer and Homeless Realtor, by local playwright Michelle Rieder. Some adult content and language.
  • The Un-Named Body Project (June 28-30) directed by Felix Mayes. This ensemble-derived piece will explore body image and eating disorders through movement-and-dialogue. Our annual social justice piece, this workshop project is supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Performances will be at 8pm on June 13, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29; and at 2pm on June 23 and 30, at the Antonio Salemme Foundation gallery, 542 W. Hamilton St., Suite 203, Allentown, PAParking in lot behind the building; elevator in rear lobby.

Tickets: Adults, $20; Students, $15. Groups of 8 or more, $12 per person. Opening night June 13: $12 for all.
