Charlotte’s Web

It’s a Wrap!

APT was delighted to share this play — adapted by Joseph Robinette from E. B. White’s classic novella — with full-house audiences at most performances.  We thank our host, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Allentown, and our other sponsors.

WHEN:    July 24-26, 31 & August 1-2

You can’t not fall in love with Charlotte, Wilbur, the plucky girl Fern, and the other characters in Charlotte’s Web.  Most of them are farm animals who rally to save the life of a pig named Wilbur.

As Charlotte (Marian Barshinger) listens from her web, Wilbur (Emily Peiffer, center) is horrified when Templeton the Rat (Justin Ariola) tells why Wilbur is being fattened up – to make “crispy bacon, . . . sizzling sausage, . . .and heavenly ham!”

Teague Fernandez directed the adult cast (most in multiple roles) in this lively story of friendship, loyalty, resourcefulness, and loss.

Wilbur’s zest for life is infectious. With help from Goose (Cheryl Moritz) and Gander (Thomas Rush), Wilbur breaks out of his pen  for a taste of freedom.
The problem is the adults, like Uncle Homer (Bill Joachim), who have a thing or two to learn about life.

Fernandez also trained a small troupe of children (at APT’s Saturday-morning workshops) for show-stealing cameos as baby pigs and baby spiders.

The hour-long play brings to life the humor and pathos that have captivated adults and children ever since E. B. White’s novella was published in 1952.  The book continues to top School Library Journal surveys as the finest American children’s novel.

Charlotte’s Web was APT’s third annual production for children and families hosted by St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in downtown Allentown! Here’s a sample of what our audiences said: “Awesome show!” “A fun play all the way around!” “We loved it!” “A super way to spend a Sunday!”  “Amazing as always!”new sheep 2 color smaller file cropped
