The Art of the Breath

In the Alba Method, the spectrum of human emotion gets broken down into six basic emotions: Joy, Tenderness, Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Sensual Love.  From these basic emotions, our feelings combine to create the broad palate of complex emotions, which we experience throughout our lives.  As actors, we are called upon to reproduce these emotions at will for performances on stage, on film, or even in recording sessions.

Developed by neuroscientist, Dr. Susana Bloch, the Alba Method offers unique tools allowing actors to consciously enter, manage, and leave an emotional state by reproducing specific breathing patterns, body tension states, facial expressions, and postural attitudes.

Unlike other acting methods, Alba does not ask the performer to recall past memories or previous experiences in order to induce an emotion. The Alba Method is a non-psychological technique. Begin your journey to emotional freedom in acting today!!

ABOUT JAMIE

Jamie Mohamdein is a professional actor, musician, and CL4 (Certification Level 4) Alba Method instructor from NYC. He holds a B.A. in Theatre and a B.A. in Music from Kutztown University. He has studied the Alba Method at Kutztown University, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Centre Kinesphere in Montreal, UNC Asheville, and Cachagua Chile where he personally studied with Dr. Susana Bloch, the creator of the Alba Method.

The same way we learn to create structure through beats, action, blocking, or verse in Shakespeare, Alba provides us a tool to be that specific with our character’s emotional lives. – Scott Ward Abernethy professional actor in New York and Seattle

I’ve known Jamie a long time and when I see him teach, I’m always astounded by his balance between the high standards of experience and the genuine empathy of a peer. When you take a class with Jamie, you can trust him to take you where you need to go. – Scott W. Abernethy
